Somebody filed a petition at change.org asking the film review website rottentomatoes.com to be shut down. The reason? Because whoever filed the petition claims Rotten Tomatoes is giving "unjust bad reviews" to movies based on DC Comics, such as Batman Vs Superman and Suicide Squad.
This resonates with a conspiracy theory that's floating around online, accusing Disney of bribing movie critics to give Movies based on Marvel comics better reviews.
Marvel, of course, is owned by Disney.
Is that really the case? Is there a conspiracy to give bad reviews to DC movies and good reviews to Marvel movies?
Well, I wouldn't think so.
Do the three most recent DC movies deserve good reviews? No. Man of Steel, Batman Vs. Superman and Suicide Squad are objectively bad movies, due to their terrible scripts, convoluted directing, and even worse casting choices.
So no, I don't think there's a conspiracy to give DC movies bad reviews. DC earned those reviews all by itself.
Is Disney bribing movie critics to give Disney movies good reviews? Well, I can't think of any other reason other than that for giving rave reviews to The Force Awakens (which was the first Star Wars movie Disney made) and to give anything other than bad reviews to every single Marvel movie since Captain America: The First Avenger.
Seriously. With the exception of the first Iron-Man and the first Captain America, every single Marvel-based movie since Spider-Man 3 has sucked beyond redemption.
Yes, all of the X-Men movies suck. All of the Avengers movies suck. Etc, etc. You get my point.
And no, explosions and special effects DO NOT make a movie better. All of the Transformers would be masterpieces of cinema if the opposite were the case.
So again: is there a conspiracy to give DC movies bad reviews? No.
Is Disney bribing movie critics? Like I said, I can find no other reason why The Force Awakens got rave reviews and why none of the Marvel movies, with the notable exception of the Fantastic 4, has not gotten worse reviews.
So you tell me.
