George Lucas explains in an interview with Charlie Rose why he wasn't involved with The Force Awakens; because Disney "wanted to make a story for the fans" and he didn't agree with the story Disney wanted to make. At some point, Lucas compared Disney to "white slavers." THAT is why The Force Awakens sucks:

Here, George Lucas points out to the fact that when you invent something new, people tend to over-use it. "You can't just go out and do space ships", Lucas says at some point. Then he says "it shows lack of imagination and fear" by the movie industry, subtly meaning Disney. That is a great criticism for The Force Awakens:
